Grotta Gigante (Giant Cave), on Trieste’s Karst Plateau, is the largest tourist cave in the world, an enchanting place in which nature, scientific research and tourism come together.

From the village of Borgo Grotta Gigante an easy and safe path leads down to the cave. The enormous cavern could host the entire Basilica of Saint Peter. Once inside, you will taste typical Karst wines and local products. A chance to taste wine 100 metres below the surface of the Earth!

The temperature in the cave is 11°C; we recommend dressing appropriately and wearing suitable shoes.
After the visit, lunch at a well-known agritourism that offers traditional local dishes.
After lunch, you will have the chance to visit the workshop of a local sculptor who creates unique works of art from Karstic rock.

Don’t miss the opportunity to discover the vast artistic collection of the Revoltella Museum accompanied by an exceptional guide!

Paolo Cervi Kervischer, the artist and modern and contemporary art, design and painting professor from Trieste, will meet you in his studio where he will tell you about his works and his personal view of Trieste, while enjoying an aperitif.

He will then accompany you to visit the Revoltella Museum, a modern art gallery founded in 1872 at the bidding of baron Pasquale Revoltella, who at his death left many of his assets – including his elegant home (which hosts the museum) and all its content – to the city of Trieste. Paolo will lead you through the rooms for a special visit of the museum’s contemporary art gallery.

After the visit, you can enjoy a sweet or savoury snack and a drink of your choice in a bakery next door to the museum.

There is a unique place in Trieste: San Giovanni Park, which once was a Psychiatric Hospital. This is where the Basaglia revolution – which dismantled psychiatric hospitals and gave patients their dignity back – started.

No longer a gated area, today it is a huge park that everyone can enjoy and explore.

We offer you a visit led by a nature expert. You will have the chance to admire the rose collection that includes the best of the modern and old production of roses, comprising more than 5000 species, some not available on the market, created by Dr. Vladimir Vremec in collaboration with Cooperativa Agricola San Pantaleone with the aim of making it one of the best in Italy.

The Park features roses dedicated to famous people and others particularly interesting for both their beauty and their history. Many varieties were created by English, German, French, Dutch and even American and Japanese breeders.

The visit will start with a guided walk in the contemporary rose garden and then move on to the lower part of the park where the old rose garden is located.

If you are interested in the history of the buildings and the old psychiatric hospital and want to find out who was “Marco Cavallo”, how Law No. 180 was born and how the Basaglia revolution started, we can organise a visit that focuses more on the psychological aspects of the park: the Lister Atelier, the Basaglia area and Parco delle Fragole (Strawberry Park).
