Trieste is internationally renowned as a city of science, research and innovation, thanks to its many science institutes, including the Astronomical Observatory, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, the International School for Advanced Studies, the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics, the Elettra Synchrotron Light Laboratory, the WWF Marine Reserve in Miramare and the Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico.

The programme
Morning departure by private bus to Trieste. Stops at leisure along the way. Arrival in Trieste and check in at the hotel.
In the afternoon, meet the guide for a walking tour of the city. The tour will include: Piazza Unità d’Italia, the old Jewish ghetto, the Roman Theatre and Borgo Teresiano, the neighbourhood with the Serbian- and Greek-Orthodox churches. Back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Breakfast. Morning dedicated to visiting ICGEB (free admission).
ICGEB is an international intergovernmental organisation, a centre of excellence for research and training in genetic engineering and biotechnology.
After the visit, transfer to Basovizza and guided tour of Trieste’s Elettra Synchrotron Centre (free admission), a multidisciplinary research centre specialised in generating high-quality synchrotron and free-electron laser light and applying it in materials science and in everyday life.
Alternatively, we can organise guided tours of the Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS). This is a public science research institution that carries out, publishes, coordinates and promotes earth science multidisciplinary studies.

The price includes:
– 1 night in a 3* hotel in Trieste with half-board service (dinner with water + continental buffet breakfast + overnight accommodation)
– Synchrotron or ICGEB or OGS guided tour booking;
– 1 half-day guided tour of the city on the first day;
– 4 free single rooms for teachers and driver
– AMI FILODIRETTO medical, luggage and civil liability insurance.
The price does not include:
– private bus hire for the duration of the trip;
– €10.00 deposit per person payable at the hotel;
– extra meals (packed lunch €7.00 per person, includes 2 sandwiches, 2 bottles of water, a piece fruit);
– personal extras;
– anything not included in “The price includes”;
